Asset Declaration

Press reports indicate that some (all?) opposition Members of the Assembly have or will refuse to declare their assets. If so why? Who has what to hide? Given the mountain of evidence of UMNO corruption under Najib Razak no one can sensibly deny that vast sums of public money have been stolen or otherwise misused and ordinary members of the public would think it natural if Opposition MLAs took this opportunity to display their personal integrity publicly.

But some of them appear strangely reluctant to take this clear public opportunity to display their personal integrity. Again why? Worries about the Income tax authorities showing an interest in assets not consistent with individual tax declarations or assets with no apparent connection to individual employment and other overt sources of income?  He who has nothing to hide has nothing to fear. So why this coyness? It cannot be a matter of principle which, for the most part, is unknown in political circles.

The voter/taxpayer will continue to show a keen interest in all developments with the issue. And draw appropriate conclusions if refusal to disclose is persisted in.
