Press reports quote lawyer Mohamad Haniff as saying that Attorneys General should never disclose advice they may have tendered while in office “unless allowed under the law.” He does not seem to have gone on to quote the “law” or “laws” to which he is reported as referring. Which is a pity as former AG Thomas might wish to be the first to be so enlightened.

As Haniff will be aware there is legislation governing some aspects of official secrecy. If he thinks the Thomas book breached that law he has a clear duty to make the necessary police report about what he thinks is an offence.

If he does not do that some Malaysians may come to think that he is criticising actions that are perfectly legal. Over to him
