With the ink still not dry on her letter of appointment the new MACC chief is presented with a fully documented mega scandal in Sarawak concerning contracts for logging involving a whole slew of Sarawak officials and businessmen as well as notorious crook, and Chief Minister at the time, Taib Mahmud.

This disgusting case of mega greed and mega crime encapsulates what the Taib gang have been up to for decades in destroying Sarawak’s forests for personal gain. It is interesting to note that the recent expose of Taib’s son’s activities of this kind in the Mulu area has passed uncontested and even unexplained.

This is not just a case of mega crime crying out for investigation. It will also be a litmus test of the sincerity of the PH government in fighting corruption wherever it occurs. It will also make, or break, the reputation of the new MACC chief according to how she handles it. For the sake of all decent, honest people in Malaysia let us hope that we will see a proper investigation, appropriate trials and a significant increase in the Sarawak prison population
