High Income State?

Sarawak’s Chief Minister is reported as saying that his State will become “a high income State” by 2030! He ought to know since Sarawak politicians and business people linked to State Governor Taib have long since achieved that status!

However since the immensly valuable tropical forests have all been cut down to benefit Chinese cronies of the State governor it is difficult to see how the ambition will be achieved. By an actual sharing out of oil revenues? Pull the other one. Whenever there is anything valuable in Sarawak there will be a queue of GPS politicians waiting to grab it for themselves. As to the native people of the State. They get beer and low denomination currency notes each election time. What more do they want?

Perhaps Sarawak’s CM will enlighten us on that too?
