… is justice denied.
It is reported that the dates for hearing a corruption case against former Minister and political boss Ahmad Zahid have been set for October. Today we are in early January.
If in fact there is a backlog in hearing criminal cases that necessitates such a long delay PH must take action to deal with it. If there are, for instance, not enough Judges to hear pending criminal cases either appoint more or, if the backlog appears temporary, appoint suitable counsel as Judicial Commissioners.
Failure to ensure prompt hearing of criminal cases relating to crimes committed long ago can only raise suspicions that the PH government are not serious in their proclaimed intent to stamp out corruption and even, possibly, induce some voters to think that ignoring crime is government policy. Unfortunate but probable.
