Malaysian Apartheid Politics

Barisan Nasional  Secretary General Annuar Musa is quoted as saying that if UMNO can cut a deal with PAS and Bersatu it can expect to get the lion’s share of seats to contest at the next general election. He qualified that by making it clear that he was referring to seats likely to go to Malay candidates.

So after 60 plus years of democratic independence the guideline for candidates for election to Parliament is not suitability or experience or even personal honesty but purely and simply racism. Malaysia, this gentleman appears to think belongs not to its citizens but rather to a racial component of them. So long as attitudes of that kind govern national politics so long will chaos of the current kind block economic and political progress.
