If Police resistance to more oversight of their activities is rightly seen as absurd and out dated the blame lies with last IGPs and the past Prime Minister (Najib) for having both misused the Force and having allowed it to misbehave grossly.
That seems to have inculcated in the ranks of the PDRM some sense of entitlement to do whatever they please, free from criticism and penalty. In other words what might be described as the “gestapo syndrome”
It is to be hoped that the new IGP will, during his two year term, eradicate any traces of such attitudes from top to bottom of the Force. If voters are allowed, as they presently are, to assess governmental performance and vote accordingly who are members of the PDRM to claim immunity from such oversight?
On the contrary they should welcome it as an additional protection for those who perform their duties according to law.
